A fish-farm diver suffered nausea and severe headaches and was staggering (as a result of
serious decompression illness) after completing mort recovery dives. The dive was planned at
60 feet, and the no-decompression limits were exceeded. This diver held only recreational diving
certification, which is not acceptable for occupational diving.
Safe work practices:
- Accurate dive planning is essential.
- Pre-determining the actual dive depths is critical.
- All divers must have acceptable occupational diver training. For information on acceptable
occupational diver training call 604 276-3100 in the Lower Mainland or toll-free 1 888 621-SAFE (7233) and ask for the WCB diving coordinator.
