While reconstructing a road, this worker turned his crawler tractor around and was returning to the storage area to refuel. Travelling on relatively stable ground he drove the left track off the road and the machine rolled down a bank into the creek. The machine struck large boulders in the creek bed and the operator was thrown from the cab. He landed on one of the tracks, was carried forward and crushed against the frame, receiving fatal injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.
